Necklace: Carnelian Heart Pendant on Copper Chain with Carnelian Faceted NuggetsBracelet: Carnelian Faceted Nuggets on Copper ChainEarrings: Carnelian Faceted Nuggets on Copper Chain

Named after the red-orange Kornel cherry, carnelian was believed by the Romans to be a stone of courage–able to shore up confidence and strength. In ancient Egypt, the stone was placed on mummies to assist the dead in their journey to the afterlife.  From antiquity, carnelian has been worn in cameos in the belief that it will ward off insanity and depression. In contemporary times, carnelian is thought by some to enhance self esteem, to combat feelings of inadequacy, and to increase physical energy. In the home, it is sometimes used as a talisman to protect against fire and misfortune. Carnelian is associated with the solar plexus chakra (the yellow chakra), in which imbalances are thought to cause digestive problems, as well as lack of confidence.  Carnelian is a variety of chalcedony and is a micro-crystalline quartz. It appears in a vibrant range of fire-orange reds to brown-reds and has a dull, waxy luster. The reddish tints in the translucent stone are due to one of its ingredients: iron oxide.
The necklace is 24 inches, bracelet 7 1/2 inches–both close with a lobster clasp onto the chain.  The earrings have a 2 inch drop.

Bracelet: African Mix Black & White Ceramic Beads on Leather Cord

Bracelet: African Mix CermamicBracelet: African Mix Ceramic Toggle Dangle

I purchased a mixed bag of ceramic beads quite some time ago that have been calling me to design–it’s challenged me every time I start to work with my jewelry.  It’s crazy how many ways these beads can be used and how the different colors and shapes inspire different pieces.  The ceramic beads are with silver plated beads and wire.  The leather cord was hand wrapped with the wire and secured to the leather cord with adhesive.  The closure is handcrafted along with the swirl dangle.  The beads are strung onto wire and slightly bent to adhere closer to the wrist.  The bend in the wire also serves to hold the beads on the top of the wrist.  The bracelet is approximately 7 1/2 inches in length.

Bracelet: Assorted Red Ceramic Beads with Czech Rhondelles & Brass Wire

The ceramic beads in this bracelet were in a mixed bag I purchased some time ago.  I added faceted Czech  rhondelles and wired them together using 20 guage brass.  the handcrafted a hook  can be secured between whatever bead fits on the wrist.  I’m concerned that the black design on the focal bead looks somewhat like a swastika.
