The drive through the park was closed due to previous fire damage which was disappointing after driving 35 miles to reach it.  While we were stopped

at the visitor’s center, two very thin deer arrived looking for something to eat.  This one raised it’s head long enough for me to snap a photo.

PhotobucketWe found allot of poppies and other flowers in bloom along the roadsides.  Southeast Arizona is much greener than the Phoenix area due to more rainfall and higher elevation.

Dos Cabezas means “two heads” – the rock formation on the mountaintop resembles that.

Gecko inside he window sunscreen

A gecko that is attempting to escape the 100+ degrees, shading up between my window and the sunscreen.  He didn’t stay long after I flashed my camera at him.

Photography: Arizona Wildflowers – near Canyon Lake March 16, 2008

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

This picture was taken near Canyon Lake, northeast of Apache Junction, Arizona.  We passed quite a number of cars on the road doing the same as we were–driving and stopping every few miles to take pictures.  There are likely a few weeks left to see the bloom.  Alot of yellow and purple mixed with a few whites are in bloom now.  The cactus look healthy and the mountainsides resemble green velvet.
